Pretty much all of this came out of music: the technology happened because it was necessary as a part of both performance and recording (and Doc needed to be able to make things work without hiring someone else to make it happen.
The most important thing for a very long time was performance, but over the years writing and recording, and then recording others, got to be nearly as much fun.
